BASIS Management Team
Nico Spence
As Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, NICO SPENCE develops and implements business strategies for BASIS' worldwide operations. Nico manages existing partner relationships and cultivates new ones by identifying ways to support and sustain customers' business needs. His primary responsibilities include determining corporate strategy to enhance shareholder value, and directing engineering, sales and marketing operations. Nico also serves as the Managing Director or the Co-Managing Director of several of BASIS' European subsidiaries. Nico joined BASIS in 2002, bringing many years of diversified management, technical, and sales and marketing experience to the organization. Prior to joining BASIS, Nico owned a very successful information technology and marketing company in South Africa which developed innovative application software for niche vertical markets and also distributed BASIS products in Africa. Nico's BASIS roots go back to the late 1980's, and the first BASIS conference that he attended was 1990's "Your Port to the Future" in Boston. Nico holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Cape Town.
Kim Peterlick
KIM PETERLICK began a career with BASIS in 1998 after a military transfer brought the family to Albuquerque. Her role originated as an accounting assistant, but quickly grew to encompass more senior accounting projects, office management, and then expanded further to include the direction of the human resources department. Kim joined the Management Team in 2018. A love of learning and challenging herself was fostered at the University of Wisconsin – River Falls where Kim completed a BS degree in Business Administration and a BS degree in Computer Science (Management Information Systems). Shortly after college graduation, she was presented with a unique opportunity to explore her creative side by training and working as a neon glassbender. After several years in a physically demanding industry, Kim returned to follow the path of her college education. BASIS tracks that direction perfectly.
Stephan Wald
STEPHAN WALD is Head of Development at BASIS Europe and a member of the BASIS management team, with responsibility for engineering across the US and Germany. He has 35 years of experience with the BBx product line and 20 years at BASIS International. Stephan holds a Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Applied Sciences in Trier, Germany, where he also guest lectured in MIS Software Systems Architecture and Computer Networks. He has spoken at JavaOne, Devoxx UK, and OOP Munich on AI, Java modernization, and platform engineering topics.
Han van Capelle
HAN VAN CAPELLE is COO of Audev BV, BASIS’ European Automotive Dealership and CRM Solution. The overwhelming majority of Dutch Toyota and Jaguar Landrover Dealerships run on Audev’s CarIT Solution. Han holds a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and started his career with MAI Basic Four, an American company producing minicomputer systems in the nineteen-eighties. He later joined several Dutch software companies, including a company specialized in using and supporting BASIS products in the Netherlands, where he held several positions before joining Audev BV.
Stephan Prinzkosky
STEPHAN PRINZKOSKY is BASIS Europe’s General Manager, with worldwide responsibility for Global Sales and Marketing of webforJ, BASIS’ Java Application Modernization Framework. Before joining BASIS in 2024, Stephan served for more than 30 years as SVP, Sales and Marketing, and Managing Director at international software companies such as IDS Scheer AG and Software AG in Europe, the USA, and ASIA. He holds a Master´s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Dipl-Ing.) from the Technical University of Kaiserslautern, Germany.
Jerry Karasz
Jerry Karasz joined the BASIS team in January of 2014. He has a Bachelor's degree in Applied Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science from the University of New Mexico and specializes in software process improvement, infrastructure, and user interfaces. His 25+ year software development career has spanned the government and commercial sectors and includes industries such as high powered microwave systems, telecommunications, banking, paper production, airport management, satellite ground stations, telemetry signal correlation and analysis, physical security, and aircraft trainers. He has seven years of software system test experience and is a Certified Project Manager. In earlier careers, Jerry was an airborne weather operator in the US Air Force and a civilian aerial photographer for the US Navy.
