KB – BLS / BLM Fail to update license

The BLM or BLS fails to successfully retrieve a license or requests licenses hourly.

The more common reasons for this are:

  • The licensing system cannot update the license file because of a permissions issue in the directory or the file.
  • The BLM/BLS is unable to reach out to poweredbybbj.com to retrieve a new license.

Most likely remedies

  • Make sure the user running the BLS/BLM has adequate permissions to write to the directories.
  • Stop and restart the BLS/BLM.  Make sure both processes of the BLM are no longer running; the BLM processes are: basis and basis_lmgrd
  • Make sure you have a connection to the internet.
  • Manually register for the license using BLSAdmin or BLMAdmin.  And restart the BLS/BLM.
