1. DOCUMENTATION FILES FOR THE BASIS PRODUCTS CD-ROM
=====================================================

All files listed below are located in the root directory.

INDEX.TXT         A listing of the included products and directories
README.1ST         Basic instructions on using the BASIS Products CD-ROM
LICENSE.TXT         The current license agreement governing the use of BASIS products.
COPYRITE.TXT         Notice of BASIS trademark and copyright information

2. HOW TO USE THE BASIS PRODUCTS CD-ROM
========================================

2.1. Finding Products
The software on this CD-ROM is organized by product under the following directories.

        /odbc         BASIS ODBC Driver
        /pro5         PRO/5
        /pro5ds         PRO/5 Data Server
        /vpro5         Visual PRO/5

To see what products are included on the disk, view the “INDEX.TXT” file. Specific product versions are indicated by a numeric naming convention. The first eight characters are the BASIS part number, with the last three places for the software version. For example, 10655103.105 indicates the 1.05 revision of Visual PRO/5.

2.2. BASIS Products CD-ROM Release Version This media contains the current versions of all included software
as of the date of manufacture. The media version is contained in the DOS Volume Label, which is displayed when viewing contents under DOS and Windows. For UNIX users, the file named “index.txt” contains the version information.
The version label is in the format “BASIS[year][month][letter],” where year and month are two-digit numbers and the letter a-z applies to successive versions created during the month. Example: “BASIS9802a” would be the first CD-ROM release in February of 1998.

2.3. Product Release Notes
All product release notes are contained in the read.me files located in the product directories. Please refer to the read.me for the latest news on functionality, fixes and other important information.

3. INSTALLING DOS, WINDOWS AND UNIX SOFTWARE
============================================

3.1 Windows Installation
BASIS Windows products may be installed directly from the CD-ROM. Run the SETUP.EXE application located in the product subdirectory and follow instructions to install and configure the product. Remember that the serial number and activation key are case-sensitive.

3.2 UNIX Installation
BASIS UNIX products are stored on the CD-ROM in compressed format. The compressed files must be copied to a host or network drive before installing. Use the following steps to install. The commands listed are typical examples.

        1. Load and mount the CD-ROM.
                 “mount /dev/cd0 /cdrom” (mount directory)

        2. Create an installation directory on the host drive where you want to copy files.
                 “mkdir /pro5”

        3. Copy the installation image files from the CD-ROM’s product directory to the installation directory.
                 “cd pro5/sco/10045100.106”
                 “cp /cdrom/pro5/sco/10045106.tar.Z /pro5/”

        4. Uncompress and tar the image file.
                 “cd /pro5/”
                 “uncompress 10045106.Z”
                 “tar -xvf 10045106”

        5. Run the PRO/5 install script. “./install”

        6. Follow the installation instructions to configure PRO/5 for your environment. Remember that the serial number and activation key are case-sensitive.

3.3 DOS Installation
BASIS DOS products are stored on the CD-ROM in compressed, self-extracting ZIP files. This includes the PRO/5 Data Server NetWare NLM version. DOS- and NetWare-based products must be installed from floppy disks. The complete sequence is as follows.

        1. Uncompress the PKZIP files for each disk. Be sure to give the floppy drive as the destination.
If you have WinZip, double click on the filename in Explorer and enter “a:” (or whatever the drive letter is) in the “Unzip to folder” field. To decompress the files from DOS, execute the self- extracting file at a DOS command prompt. This can be done either by changing directories and typing the filename, or by typing the full directory path and filename as in the following example.
                 “x:\pro5\dos\10535104\disk1.exe a:”

        2. When you have created the installable disk set, run the PRO/5 install program on disk 1. At a DOS command prompt, type:
                 “a:\install.exe”

        3. Follow the installation instructions to configure PRO/5 for your environment. Remember that the serial number and activation key are case-sensitive.
