The Windows Dial Up Adaptor Dialog always comes up with the first connection to a Data Server

Description:

If Dial up Networking is installed under Windows 95, it always comes up on the first OPEN via a Data Server – even if the priority has been modified so that the TCP/IP bindings to the NIC are raised. 

BASIS recommends removing Dial Up Networking completely, if feasible, to eliminate this problem because it affects performance. This may not be feasible for some users, because they need access to that adapter for other applications.

Using the Registry Editor (regedit) incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall Windows 95. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. 

NOTE: For information about how to edit the registry, view the Changing Keys And Values online Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe). Note that you should make a backup copy of the registry files (System.dat and User.dat) before you edit the registry. 

Here is another way around this problem that was posted on the Web and to our Newsgroups: 

1. Use regedit to edit the win95 registry. 
2. Do a FIND and search for EnableAutoDial. Remove any of these that are found. 

This doesn’t destroy the dialup capability, but it stops the Dial Up Dialog from appearing. The drawback is that in order to launch a browser you have to start the connection manually instead of it being automatic.
