How to revert to the older, character based model of editing a line of Visual PRO/5 code.

Description:

In Visual PRO/5, editing a line of code (as in >edit 10) calls up a graphical window. This is different than the character based window that was used with the Unix and DOS versions of PRO/5 in both looks and editing hotkeys. If you like the old style of editing better, you change this via the SYSWINDOW configuration which is located in the registry as of PRO/5 2.0. Previous to revision 2.0, it was located in a file called PRO5.INI.

Using the Registry Editor (regedit) incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall Windows 95. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. USE Registry Editor AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!! 


You can change the parameter that exists in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\BASIS\VPRO5\2.03\pro5\default to modify the editing style. Note that the revision and the name of the instantiation of VP5 (as denoted by the 2.03 and default in the key above) may change depending on the revision of VP5 and the -n and -a command line parameters that may have been supplied when invoking VP5 (default is used if -a and -n weren’t specified). The OLDEDIT is a binary flag, and changing it to a 01 will revert the editing style back to the older method. Modifying the registry is always something that should be done carefully, though, as removing core parts can affect the operating system.
