00836: Using Facetterm: All screens just lockup with the value “\E\Ettyname” on the screen

Title:

Using Facetterm: All screens just lockup with the value “\E\Ettyname” on the screen

Description:

When using facetterm from the SCO console we have found that the ansi.fc terminal descriptor file does not work. All facetterm windows STILL lockup with the following characters on the screen:

\E\Ettyname

Resolution:

To resolve this issue, make sure that you are using the correct terminal descriptor file, which we found to be ansi.sco.fi

Follow these steps:
1. We moved a copy of ansi.sco.fi from the /usr/facetterm/term/ directory to the /usr/facetterm/localterm/ directory.
2. Then we added these lines to the file:
## BASIS license management requires these lines
fct_info_answer=%s1\n
fct_info_question=\E\E%s1\E

3. Make sure there are no embedded spaces after the fct_info entries.
Here is further documentation on facetterm entries.

FacetTerm System Directions
FacetTerm terminal description files are normally stored in the
/usr/factterm/term directory. To enable the enhancement, do the
following:

Either ensure that a /usr/facetterm/localterm directory exists -OR-
create it with the same owner and mode as the base directory. Modified
copies of the terminal description files will be stored in the new
directory.

For each utilized terminal type, copy the terminal description file
from the /usr/facetterm/term directory to the /usr/facetterm/localterm
directory and then modify the file. The following is an example of a
typical terminal file name for FacetTerm: ansi.sco.fi

Add the following three lines exactly as shown (there are no hard
returns between the lines):
## BASIS license management requires these lines
fct_info_answer=%s1\n
fct_info_question=\E\E%s1\E
BBWINTYPE Setting – PRO/5 2.0x Only

4. Next, the TERM variable has to be ansi or ansi.sco
To view your environmental variables, type env at the Unix prompt.
Then, if needed, change the TERM type. The following is an
example of setting the TERM at a Unix prompt:

$TERM=ansi;export TERM
